The Slovakia FSD approval is official. On October 16, Slovakia’s Ministry of Transport formally recognized the Dutch type approval for Full Self-Driving (Supervised), making it the ninth European Union country to allow Tesla’s driver-assistance system on public roads. Less than a day later, owners there were already reporting it in their cars.
Tesla Europe announced it on X: “Now approved in Slovakia 🇸🇰 Rollout begins soon.” @elonmusk shared the news too. Overnight, @DriveTeslaca reported that FSD had started rolling out in Slovakia with software update 2026.33.100.
How the Slovakia FSD approval works
Slovakia didn’t run its own review. The Dutch vehicle authority RDW issued a preliminary type approval in April, and other EU countries can recognize it on their territory. That’s what Slovakia did. In the ministry’s statement (in Slovak), Transport Minister Jozef Ráž said Slovakia is not falling behind on modern transport technology. He also stressed that it is not a fully autonomous system: the driver remains fully responsible, and the system watches the driver’s attention, warning them or switching off if needed.
The nine EU countries so far
- Netherlands (first, in April)
- Lithuania
- Estonia
- Denmark
- Belgium
- Slovenia
- Czechia
- Croatia
- Slovakia (October 16)
In most of Europe, Tesla now markets the system as “Tesla Assisted Driving,” a change we covered when FSD got a new name in Europe. Slovakia’s statement still uses the Full Self-Driving (Supervised) name. European launches so far have been for HW4 (AI4) vehicles.
Next up: the December EU vote
Tesla’s bigger goal is approval across the whole EU. A vote in the EU’s Technical Committee on Motor Vehicles isn’t expected before December. It needs at least 15 member states representing 65% of the EU’s population. Germany now supports the push, while France and Sweden have raised concerns about the Speed Offset setting, which can let the system go above posted limits. Not a Tesla App reports that Tesla is also talking with Italy and that Ireland is close to its own decision.
What it means for Canadian owners
Nothing changes here. Canada has had FSD since the 2022 beta, and the FSD (Supervised) name stays the same. HW4 cars in Canada are on FSD v14.3.12, and older Intel-based HW3 Model S and Model X cars recently got FSD v14.3 Lite. Europe’s country-by-country path is a good reminder of how much regulators shape what our cars are allowed to do.
