Tesla has officially launched its first referral program built around FSD (Supervised) instead of new cars. The catch for us: it is available in the United States only, so Canadian owners can’t use it yet.
What Tesla announced
On Thursday evening, October 29, @tesla_na posted: “Refer friends & family to gift them a month of FSD Supervised. Once they subscribe, you’ll receive a free month in return (or $99 in Tesla Credits if bought outright). Available in the US.”
Based on Tesla’s support page, as reported by Tesla North and EV (eletric-vehicles.com), here is how it works:
- The friend gets a one-month FSD (Supervised) trial. They must own a registered Tesla with FSD-capable hardware, must not have subscribed to FSD in the past 12 months, and must never have bought FSD outright.
- The referrer must already subscribe to FSD or own it. If the friend starts a paid subscription during the trial, a subscriber earns a free month and an owner who bought FSD outright earns a $99 Tesla Credit.
- Limits: up to 12 referral rewards per calendar year. Owners share the link from Refer and Earn in the Tesla app, version 4.62.0 or later.
As @SawyerMerritt pointed out, the old vehicle program only worked for first-time Tesla buyers, while this one targets people who already own a Tesla but don’t use FSD.
Car referrals end in the U.S.
The new program replaces vehicle referrals in the U.S. @NotATeslaApp reported that Tesla ended car referrals there, and EV reports that Tesla’s U.S. Refer and Earn page now lists solar as the only product with referral rewards. Until Thursday, a U.S. referrer earned a $250 credit when someone bought a Model 3, Model Y or eligible Cybertruck with their link.
What about Canada?
Not yet. @DriveTeslaca asked whether anyone in Canada could see the feature, then confirmed it launched in the U.S. only. Tesla hasn’t said whether it will come here. Earlier this week we reported that app code hinted at FSD referral rewards, so this is that feature going live, just not north of the border.
FSD (Supervised) is sold in Canada and HW3 cars here now get v14.3 Lite, so a referral program would make sense for Canadian owners too. We’ll let you know if it shows up in the Canadian Tesla app.
Would you refer a friend if it came to Canada? Tell us in our Facebook group, Tesla Model Y & 3 [Ontario, Canada], where thousands of Ontario owners talk FSD every day. Come join us!
