Tesla’s switch from “AI” to “SI” (Super Intelligence) has reached the cars themselves, at least on paper. Tesla’s online owner’s manuals now refer to the vehicle’s self-driving computer as the SI Computer instead of the AI Computer, as first spotted by Drive Tesla Canada and Not a Tesla App on October 27.
What changed in the manual
According to Drive Tesla Canada, the Model 3 Owner’s Manual for software version 2026.38.3 now uses the new name in a note about the interior cabin camera for Pet Mode and Sentry Mode. It reads: “Enabling the interior cabin camera for Pet Mode or Sentry Mode requires the mobile app version 4.15.0 or higher. This feature is not supported in vehicles with SI Computer 2.0 or 2.5. Touch Controls > Software and look at SI Computer to find out which computer your vehicle has.” The same note previously said “AI computer.”
Not a Tesla App reports the change also appears in the manuals for Model Y and Cybertruck. The Model Y FSD section now says: “The SI Computer installed in Model Y is designed to use this input, rapidly process neural networks, and make decisions to guide you to your destination.” Tesla’s support page for computer upgrades is also now titled “SI Computer Installations.”
Is this new hardware?
No. This is a naming change only. Nothing about your car’s computer, cameras or FSD (Supervised) features changes. If the new scheme follows the old one, AI4 (formerly HW4) would become SI4, and HW3 would become SI3, though Tesla has not formally announced those labels. The rename follows Tesla changing its Tesla AI account on X to Tesla Super Intelligence (@TeslaSI) earlier this month.
Your screen may still say AI Computer
Don’t be surprised if your car hasn’t caught up. Drive Tesla Canada checked a vehicle on 2026.38.5.1 and the Software screen still showed “AI Computer: Full Self-Driving Computer 3.” Not a Tesla App suggests the new label could show up on the touchscreen in a future update. Our latest tracked release is still 2026.38.5.11 with FSD v14.3.13, so we’ll watch for it.
How to check which computer you have
On your touchscreen, tap Controls > Software and look at the AI (or SI) Computer line. Tap “Additional Vehicle Information” for more detail. This matters if you’re on an older car: features like the cabin camera for Pet Mode and Sentry Mode aren’t supported on computer 2.0 or 2.5.
