Elon Musk said Optimus and Cybercab will make up the vast majority of Tesla’s value, framing humanoid robots and robotaxis—not passenger-car sales alone—as the company’s long-term economic engine.
Replying on X on October 18, 2026, Musk wrote: “Optimus and Cybercab will be the vast majority of Tesla’s value.” He added that the businesses that can scale to “incredible size” economically are “super intelligence, robots, solar power and mass to space,” and that progress on the first two unlocks the rest. The remarks came days after Tesla’s next-gen Roadster reveal and just ahead of Tesla’s Q3 2026 results on October 21.

What Musk is pointing at
Cybercab is Tesla’s purpose-built two-seat robotaxi. Unsupervised Robotaxi and Cybercab service is already operating in Austin, with hours recently extended until midnight—coverage we published here: Tesla Robotaxi and Cybercab rides in Austin now run until midnight. Optimus is Tesla’s humanoid robot program, still in development and factory trials rather than a consumer product.
Musk’s post does not give a timeline for Canadian robotaxi service or Optimus availability. For Canadians, FSD (Supervised) remains a driver-assist subscription, not unsupervised autonomy, and provincial rules still require an attentive human driver on public roads.
Why the timing matters
Tesla reports Q3 earnings after the market close on Wednesday, October 21, with the call expected around 5:30 p.m. ET. Investors will look for updates on Robotaxi utilization, Cybercab fleet growth, energy storage, and capital spending alongside the usual delivery and margin figures. We previously outlined how to submit shareholder questions: Tesla Q3 2026 earnings are October 21.
The Roadster still matters as a halo product—Musk has separately talked up thruster demos and 2028 production—but his October 18 reply puts Optimus and Cybercab at the centre of how he wants the market to value Tesla.
