Tesla Robotaxi hours in Austin now run until midnight. Riders can book both the Model Y Robotaxi and the two-seat Cybercab from 6 a.m. to 12 a.m., one hour later than before, as Tesla inches toward 24/7 service.
The change showed up late Friday night, Austin time. Rider @ethanmckanna posted that “Tesla Robotaxi is now available until midnight, bringing service hours to 6am-12am,” and @aaronjcash shared a Robotaxi app notification about Cybercab. Drive Tesla Canada reports the notification reads: “Night out? Cybercab has your back. Rides now available until midnight.” Not a Tesla App and Drive Tesla Canada have both reported the new hours.
How Tesla Robotaxi hours have grown
- August: hours expanded to 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Early October: pushed to 11 p.m., as Tesla added more than 100 Cybercabs in Austin
- Now: 6 a.m. to midnight for both Robotaxi and Cybercab
Not a Tesla App says the Austin Cybercab fleet is now over 300, and Dallas is expected to be the next city for Cybercab rides. That lines up with the Texas registration numbers in our recent look at Tesla’s Texas Robotaxi roster.
What’s standing in the way of 24/7
Night driving is the main hurdle. According to Not a Tesla App, Elon Musk said earlier this month that the main thing Tesla is trying to solve is spotting “grey kittens on grey tarmac in the dark.” Tesla VP of AI Ashok Elluswamy has said FSD v15 will unlock round-the-clock Robotaxi operations, with a rollout to the Robotaxi fleet targeted for this month, the outlet reports. Tesla hasn’t announced a date.
The service is also under federal scrutiny. Not a Tesla App reports that NHTSA opened an inquiry into claims that Robotaxis sped through active school zones, covering about 1,000 vehicles. None of the four incidents involved a crash or injury, and NHTSA hasn’t decided whether to open a formal investigation.
What it means for Canada
Tesla Robotaxi isn’t available in Canada, and Tesla hasn’t announced a Canadian timeline. The closest driverless service on the calendar is Waymo, which is targeting its first Toronto riders in 2028. For Canadian owners, the more practical question is when FSD v15 reaches customer cars. Tesla hasn’t said, and HW4 cars here are currently on FSD v14.3.12. Night driving in a Canadian winter, with snow, slush and dark roads, would be a real test.
