Tesla Now Accepts Cybertruck Trade-Ins in Canada, but Early Offers Disappoint Owners

Tesla is now accepting Cybertruck trade-ins in Canada, reversing a policy that left Canadian owners unable to trade their trucks toward another Tesla. The catch: early Cybertruck trade-in offers in Canada are coming in well below what some dealers and wholesale auctions are willing to pay, according to Drive Tesla Canada.

From “no” to “yes” on Cybertruck trade-ins

In August, Drive Tesla Canada reported that a Canadian owner was told Tesla would not take his Cybertruck as a trade-in. On October 20, the outlet reported that multiple Canadian owners have now received trade-in estimates from Tesla.

Tesla has not publicly explained the original refusal or the change. Drive Tesla suggested the gap between tariff-inflated new-truck prices and used values may have played a role, but that is the outlet’s theory, not Tesla’s.

What owners are being offered

Two early examples shared by owners:

  • A 2024 Cybertruck Foundation Series AWD with 38,310 km received a Tesla estimate of $86,600, according to a post in the Cybertruck Canada Facebook group cited by Drive Tesla.
  • Owner @darewecan posted on X on October 19 that Tesla Canada offered $88,400 for his Foundation Series truck. He wrote that a dealer was offering him $103,000, and that a wholesale auction through a local Ford dealer had produced a winning bid of $104,700 a few months earlier.

That puts his Tesla offer roughly $15,000 below the competing bids. These are individual reports, not an official Tesla price list, and every trade-in is valued on mileage, condition and options.

For context, Drive Tesla notes a new Cybertruck currently starts at $139,990 for the Premium AWD and $167,990 for the Cyberbeast in Canada, prices pushed up by the current Canada-U.S. tariff situation.

Cybertruck trade-in Canada: how Tesla’s process works

Tesla’s Canadian trade-in page says trade-ins are applied toward a new or pre-owned Tesla. After you place an order, you submit your VIN, mileage, postal code and photos in your Tesla Account. Offers are valid for 30 days or 1,600 km, whichever comes first, and you hand the vehicle over at your delivery appointment. Tesla accepts only one trade-in per purchase.
